I got some photos of the marionette that’s being made for my circus show. It has been sculpted, now it needs to be painted, varnished, and strung.
An important question is the length of the strings. The performance surface is 38 inches high, and I’m 5’10”. I’m hoping to avoid having to bring a step stool with me to every show, so I thought I would just hold my hands up and operate the marionette in front of me.
But does it work that way? I don’t know. I have zero experience with marionettes. Do the strings need to be long for proper movement? Or do short strings work best? Is it just personal preference? I have no idea. I’m starting from scratch with this.
Actually, I should probably get myself a book on how to operate marionettes. Or search up some videos on youtube? I have no idea how to do this and about two months to learn.
