Six months ago, Funtime Happy Camp didn’t exist. There were no s’mores by the campfire, no mysterious paw prints on the trail, no pirates docking at the lake, and certainly no dinosaurs strolling past the mess hall. Back then, my channel had one big thing going for it: monster hunt songs. Each hunt featured different lead characters—until Zack and Maya came along.
I imagined Zack and Maya as curious, spunky adventurers, leaders of the “Monster Hunt Club.” They needed a mentor, someone who could drive them to danger and back, so Officer Bob joined the team. Then, on a whim, I sent them to a summer camp for the song We’re Going on a Werewolf Hunt. That video took off like a canoe in rapids, and suddenly the camp became the perfect home for a series of summer adventures.
In just a few months, Funtime Happy Camp has gone from an idea to a fully stocked world—11 main characters, plus a rotating crew of monsters, pirates, and dinosaurs. None of it would exist without artist and designer Farid Muminov. I give him detailed character descriptions—personalities, quirks, and backstories—and he turns them into vibrant designs, from Zack and Maya to the campers, camp staff, and Safari Charlie, who’s set for new jungle adventures this fall and winter.
The best part? At camp, anything can happen—and the kids just roll with it. One day they’re chasing werewolves, the next they’re roasting marshmallows after a dinosaur sighting. It’s a place where the unexpected is part of the fun.
Want to see how it all began? Watch We’re Going on a Werewolf Hunt and meet Zack, Maya, and Officer Bob on their very first camp adventure.
